Dear Friends,
Today, my message will be short & sweet. My mission is to speak about self care, and how it is NOT something that we don't deserve, rather it is something we SHOULD be doing on a regular basis.
As a God fearing woman (or man, I'm sure not a ton of men read my blog but if you do, YAY. Glad you're here.) we can sometimes think that putting ourselves before others is never something that is okay. After all, God states in Philippians 2:3, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility, consider others as more important than yourself." This is true. We are to love unconditionally, and perform acts of kindness to those around us, just as Jesus did. However, we also must take into consideration the verse from 1 Corinthians, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you?" this verse is so often overlooked. God wants us to take care of our bodies. Treat ourselves with love & care, because if we don't do that, then how are we supposed to treat others this way? Self care isn't selfish, as long as we're doing it for the right reasons. It's a way to nurture ourselves, to build ourselves back up mentally. It's a way to honor God.
So, now it's time to ask yourself, "What makes me happy? What can I do for MYSELF that will allow me to be and continue to be the best version of myself, that is God pleasing." this could be so many things. Getting up early to take a walk, or go to a coffee shop. Journaling, writing, cooking, whatever your thing is, do it, and stay consistent with it. Once a day, once a week, once every other week, whenever you feel like you need that time for yourself to reevaluate and refocus. Need some ideas? I wrote a short blog post highlighting four of my favorite self care routines here.
I know that remembering to take care of yourself is hard a lot of the time. Trying to set those boundaries, trying to remember that what you're doing isn't selfish, but the best way to overcome these thoughts is to pray. To ask God to guide you in the right direction. He is all knowing, and all powerful, yet He is gentle and loving. He takes care of us every day and one of the ways He does this is by reminding us to take care of ourselves. Never forget this, and you'll be in good shape.
So, my challenge to you is to designate that day. Once a week for an entire month, find a day that works and take care of yourself. If you can't find one, then you're too busy, and you need to cancel plans. ;) if you're consistent with this for one month, chances are it's going to carry over into the next month, and soon you'll be in a flawless self care routine. Make this ritual a priority, like you would a coffee date with a friend. Be kind to yourself, so that you can be kind to others. & that, friends, is all I have for you today. :)
Sincerely, Mir
