Okay folks, I figured it was about time I finally got on the blog to share with you my specific egg yolk coffee recipe that I have juuuust about every day!
First of all, I'm sure most of you are thinking-- egg yolk coffee? Are you insane? I don't want scrambled eggs in my coffee, Mir. & to that I say -- don't knock it 'til you try it! This coffee is sooo creamy (swoon) & I promise you will absolutely love it!
So why an egg yolk? Well, this answer is simple! Egg yolks are a nutrient power house! They are--
Full of all the fat soluble Vitamins (A, D, E and K).
A great source of Choline! If ya didn't know, Choline helps reduce inflammation but more importantly, is one of the most important nutrient to protect against fatty liver disease & age related declines in cognitive function.
An optimal source of protein due to the fact that eggs contain all the essential amino acids in the proper rations (this is a really good thing!!!).
They also help aid in hormonal balance (woo!).
but Mir, what about salmonella?
A very valid question! Allow me to ease your mind.
Salmonella is found on the shell of the egg. Therefore, if you are getting your eggs from a clean farm or getting them organic, pasture raised (even free range), your chances of getting salmonella decrease immensely. & even then, most of the "danger" would occur in the whites, which you're tossing anyway!
Ultimately -- do what you're comfortable with! Am I comfortable with this as long as I'm using clean eggs? You betcha! Do I know hundreds of other women who feel the same? Yep! BUT, if YOU are not comfortable-- then don't! It's simple as that. :)
Now that we've got that out of the way, let's get on with the good stuff! The moment you've all been waiting for!
the recipe
Ingredients:
1 egg yolk
1 cup organic coffee
1/4 cup of organic half and half (I like Horizon brand)
1 tbs cane sugar
1 scoop collagen (optional)
Directions:
Whip the egg yolk and the sugar until its nice and fluffy
In the meantime brew your coffee
Add the half and half and whisk it into the sugar mixture
Top with hot coffee, a scoop of collagen and froth it up!
& that's it! Simple, right? No excuse to at least try it, right? ;)
